Performance Physiology Testing

Performance Testing: Lactate, Vo2Max and Fat Max Tests to monitor & improve your results.

Cycling, running and triathlon are data-rich sports. Understanding athletic performance physiology better equips an athlete to monitor and improve endurance sport training. Using state-of-the-art equipment, together with staff experienced at the highest possible sporting levels, we offer a range of performance testing products or solutions to suit the needs of all cyclists, runners and triathletes.


We work with all kinds of athletes, from Olympians and Grand Tour winners, to amateur level competitors preparing for their first event. Whether you are a seasoned professional or a brand new entrant at the amateur level, our test data will give you the foundation for laser-focused training. 

 

A detailed report of your metabolic results is supplied with every test, allowing you to plan and execute your endurance or strength and conditioning training with precision.

 

We use Cosmed metabolic carts with Lactate Plus analysers and strips to ensure the highest data quality. In addition, our Wahoo KickR ergometers allow cyclists to use their own bicycles to avoid the impact changes in biomechanics could have on the results.  Our running tests are performed on a FFiTTech treadmill.


*Note that we are currently only able to offer Running Performance Tests at our laboratory in Girona.

CYCLING PERFORMANCE TESTS:

Complete Metabolic Profile & VO2 Max Test

VO2 Max Test

Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 Max), peak power output (PPO) and metabolic thresholds have been associated with endurance performance and can be used to quantify training adaptations.

 

Height, weight and body fat percentage is measured. After a 10 minute self-paced warm up, the test begins at a low intensity and increases at a constant rate until exhaustion.

Fat Max Test

Training at the correct intensity ensures that the majority of energy is derived from fat. The Fat Max test determines the range or zone where fax oxidisation rates are maximal.  Regular monitoring of this will show if your ability to use fat as a fuel source has increased.

 

Height, weight and body fat percentage is measured. After a 10 minute self-paced warm up, the test begins at a low intensity and increases at a constant rate until threshold.

Complete Metabolic Profile / VO2Max Performance Test

Complete Metabolic Profile

A combined Fat Max and Lactate Accumulation Assessment (LAA) test. This test will determine if your training interventions have been successful – in addition to defining the intensities that allow you to target the metabolic pathways used to oxidise both fat and carbohydrates as fuel. Similarly, it will provide training at specific intensities where lactate increases to a level greater than baseline, but can still be maintained for prolonged durations. Targeting this zone, will assist in the positive shift of your lactate curve.

Our most comprehensive offering that provides you with a complete assessment of your performance physiology.

Height, weight and body fat percentage is measured. After a 10 minute self-paced warm up, we begin with a Metabolic Profile, the VO2Max Test is done after a short break.

Lactate Accumulation Assessment (LAA)

Lactate Accumulation Test (LAA)

The Lactate Accumulation test will provide the training intensity where lactate has increased to a level greater than baseline, but can still be maintained for prolonged durations. Training in this zone, before a sharp rise in lactate concentration can result in a shift of your lactate curve.

Height, weight and body fat percentage is measured. After a 10 minute self-paced warm up, the test begins at a low intensity which increases every seven minutes until the intensity change results in a large change of lactate accumulation.
