the needs of any cyclist, no matter their level of experience.

Testing

VO2Max Testing (VO2MAX)​​

We perform a graded exercise test (progressive increase in power output) to exhaustion. We measure cadence, heart rate and metabolic gases throughout the test. This allows us to calculate your lactate turnpoint power output and heart rate, peak power output, maximal heart rate and your VO2MAX. We will provide you with a comprehensive report after we analyse your test results.

If you are a competitive junior or age-group level athlete who requires accurate data to set your training intensity zones or if you want to assess your progress over time then this is the test to do. If you are an established professional or long time elite athlete and have done this test before, then you should consider performing a lactate accumulation test or a complete metabolic profiling. If you are not sure please speak to one of our consultants who will guide you.

Fat Max Testing (FATMAX)

We perform a progressive step test which is submaximal (we discontinue the test based on the values we see in real time). We measure cadence, heart rate and metabolic gases throughout the test. This allows us to calculate your maximal fat oxidation (FATMAX) rate as well as the heart rate and power output at FatMAX. We will provide you with a comprehensive report after we analyse your test results.

Elite endurance athletes who want to measure how well they utilise fat as a fuel source and want to determine the optimal training intensity to increase their abilitly to use fat as a fuel source. The test can be done in combination with other tests or as a stand-alone assessment.

Complete metabolic profiling

This test combines the FATMAX test and the Lactate Accumulation test to provide a comprehensive assessment of fuel source use for elite athletes. Endurance athletes who want to measure how well they utilise fat and carbohydrate as a fuel source and want to assess the optimal training intensity to improve the use of both of these fuel sources should do this test in combination with other tests or as a stand-alone assessment. This is a fundamental test for the elite or professional cyclist or triathlete.

Complete metabolic profiling and V02max Combo

ERGOFIT & BIOMECHANICS

Basic Ergofit

Cost R830

A basic interview is followed by measurements of the individual.
These are used to generate a highly accurate predicted fitting report.
The existing bicycle is then measured using objective criteria and accurate tools.
Any parameters that are significantly different to the predictive report are corrected.
The cyclist will then be assessed on the bike using our 6-point optimization process.

Any minor abnormalities are corrected before generating a final fitting report.
At the end of the fitting the cyclist can be advised on the correct saddle size after measurement of the contact points using the ErgoFiT saddle sizer.

ErgoFiT Advanced​

This fitting includes all aspects of the Basic ErgoFiT, but includes the following additional assessments:

  • Assessment and correction of leg length discrepancy
  • Assessment and correction of foot alignment
  • Optimisation of cleat position

Professional Fit

Following all procedures covered in the Advanced ErgoFiT, further optimisation of all parameters is achieved through

1) saddle pressure mapping with review of:

• Centre of pressure position
• Pelvic stability
• Quality of movement pattern
• Peak pressure values
• Dynamic pressure changes
• Assessment of pressure in relation to saddle size with recommendations of optimal saddle size, shape and position

2) A video analysis with review of

• Dynamic knee flexion angle
• Pelvic stability assessment
• Torso angle and overall position
• Coronal plane kinematics to assess foot stability and tracking
